Base Location : Pun Hlaing Estate, Yangon
Reporting to : Utility Operation Manager
Job Profile
Operational Monitoring:
- Monitor the substation equipment, including transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and other apparatus, via Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and on-site instruments.
- Record readings from gauges and meters to track performance and detect unusual operating conditions.
Switching Operations:
- Execute switching procedures to de-energize and re-energize equipment for planned maintenance or emergency repairs, following strict safety protocols.
- Implement lockout/tagout procedures to ensure equipment is safely isolated for maintenance personnel.
Inspection and Maintenance:
- Conduct routine visual inspections of the substation to check for equipment integrity, environmental protection measures, and any signs of damage or malfunction.
- Perform minor maintenance tasks, such as cleaning equipment, checking oil levels, and replacing fuses, as required.
- Housekeeping the switchyards, station compounds and facilities (panels, DB, etc.,) to be neat and tidy all the time.
Emergency Response:
- Respond promptly and decisively to alarms, equipment failures, and power outages.
- Work rapidly to isolate faults and restore power to minimize disruption to residents.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed daily logs of all operational activities, equipment readings, maintenance work, and any incidents.
- Report issues and operational summaries to the Electrical Engineer or management.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure all work and procedures adhere to the highest safety standards, including utility and governmental regulations.
- Collaborate with the Electrical Engineer to review and update operational and safety procedures.
Coordination and Communication:
- Communicate with the estate’s engineering team, external utility dispatchers, and external contractors during routine operations and emergency situations.
- Serve as the on-site point of contact regarding substation operations.
Job Specification
Qualifications and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent is required; a technical or vocational certification in electrical technology or a related field is preferred.
- Completion of a recognized Substation Operator training program or apprenticeship is highly desirable.
- Previous experience operating electrical power plant or substation equipment is typically required.
Required Skills
- Technical Skills: Comprehensive knowledge of high and medium voltage electrical systems and equipment. Familiarity with SCADA systems and the ability to interpret electrical diagrams and schematics.
- Safety Acumen: In-depth knowledge of electrical safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and arc flash protection.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to quickly diagnose and resolve electrical issues under pressure.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail for precise operational procedures, accurate record-keeping, and safety compliance.
- Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills to report issues and coordinate with team members and external parties.
- Responsibility: A high degree of responsibility and reliability, especially during emergencies and independent work periods.
